Bauhaus museums open again
Good news for Bauhaus fans: the museums in Berlin, Dessau and Weimar are opening their doors again. To stem the spread of COVID-19, the museums had to remain closed for several weeks. Since 4 May 2020, they are now gradually reopening their doors to interested visitors.
Bauhaus Museum Weimar
Open again from 4 May 2020
With the Bauhaus Museum Weimar, which reopened in April 2019, a new cultural quarter has been created in the city, spanning the arc from the end of the 19th century through the ambivalent history of modernism to the present. At the founding site of the Bauhaus, the new Bauhaus Museum Weimar, as a modern place of encounter, openness and discussion, recalls the early Weimar phase of the most important design and art school of the 20th century. It stages the treasures of the world's oldest Bauhaus collection and links Bauhaus history with questions about the way of life of today and tomorrow.
The Bauhaus Museum Weimar will reopen on 4 May 2020 in compliance with hygiene regulations.
temporary bauhaus archiv
Open again from 11 May 2020
While the bauhaus-archiv / Museum für Gestaltung in Berlin is being renovated and expanded, visitors are welcomed to the temporary bauhaus-archiv. A changing programme deals with the history of the Bauhaus as well as current issues of design, architecture and society. Information is also provided on the new building project. Please note that the temporary is not a museum, but a project space in which new forms of presentation and communication are experimented with.
The temporary bauhaus-archiv will be open again from 11 May 2020, Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Bauhaus Museum Dessau
Open again from 12 May 2020
The new Bauhaus Museum in the Dessau City Park presents the valuable collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation and creates a new link to the other Bauhaus buildings in the city. The Bauhaus Museum Dessau was opened on 8 September 2019 to mark the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Bauhaus. Until now, the presentation of the valuable collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation in the Bauhaus building has been possible only to a limited extent. For the first time, the new museum provides suitable premises for a comprehensive public presentation. The collection of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation comprises around 49,000 catalogued exhibits and is the second largest collection on the theme of the Bauhaus worldwide. The new museum with an exhibition area of 2,100 square metres has a total floor space of 3,500 square metres.
The Bauhaus Museum Dessau will be open again from 12 May 2020 Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
