At the NRW-Forum Düsseldorf a large exhibition is dedicated to the new visions in contemporary art. It will open on 7th December. The Bauhaus’ photographic legacy is juxtaposed with the oeuvre of contemporary artists. The exhibition’s point of departure is the legendary Werkbund exhibition “Film and Photo” which toured through German-speaking cities in parallel with the Bauhaus travelling exhibition in 1929/1930 and devoted itself to the history and future of “film and photo”. Similarly, this show will also review its historic roots, while venturing to render an artistic prognosis through electronic and digital media.
There will be a festive spirit at the house of the Alexander und Renata Camaro Stiftung (foundation) shortly before Christmas. Accompanying the exhibition “Painter. Mentor. Magician. Otto Mueller and his network in Wrocław” – that has been on view at the Berlin Hamburger Bahnhof – Museum für Gegenwart since October, there will be a concert on 16th December evoking the sounds of the musical tradition of modernism through piano, soprano and drums. This “musical journey through Silesia” brings back memories of a time when the Academy of Art and Design in Wroclaw was one of the most advanced art academies in Europe.
Just before the New Year, the connection between the Bauhaus and America will be commemorated in Münster. This is also the exhibition’s name. In its accompanying programme the choreographers Isaac Spencer and Matthias Mark explore materiality and texture. Their performance in the entrance hall of the LWL-Museum für Kunst und Kultur focuses on measuring and exploring spatial planes and the own body – quite in the spirit of the Bauhaus space stage.
The new museum buildings in Berlin, Dessau and Weimar are only partially accessible to the public. While there is no building noise to be heard so far at the future site of the new building at the Landwehrkanal, at the temporary Bauhaus Archive in Berlin-Charlottenburg a typography workshop by the design legend Erich Spiekermann invites you to design and print Christmas postcards and posters in the newly developed Bauhaus font “Joschmi” throughout the month of December.
In Dessau one expects to still complete the façade of the new Bauhaus Museum this year after having completed the structural work. Thus as of mid-December the building will be heated for the first time and paintwork will begin. The opening of the Bauhaus Museum Dessau will take place on 8th September 2019 and is one of the highlights of the centenary.
The new Bauhaus-Museum Weimar has already been built: The shell construction has been rising into the Weimar sky for quite some time already and squares and parks around the museum are being built industriously. In the coming months the museum’s interior construction will be completed. A lot remains to be done until the last exhibit can be placed. Restorers are giving the object finishing touches, curators and cultural mediators are polishing texts and presentation details. On 6th April the Bauhaus Museum Weimar will open its gates with its big centenary show.
